Where Do I Find Purpose? | Rooted
Many people spend their lives asking the same question:
“What am I supposed to do with my life?”
You can see this question everywhere in our culture. Students feel pressure to choose the perfect major. Young professionals wonder if they chose the right career path. Parents try to build the perfect family and hope they’re doing it right.
Underneath all of it is a common belief: that our worth is connected to what we accomplish.
So we work harder. We chase success. We try to prove that our lives matter.
But the Bible offers a different perspective.
In Ephesians 2:10, the apostle Paul writes:
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
According to Scripture, your life is not random and your purpose is not something you have to invent.
You were created by God with intention.
Purpose Flows From Identity
One of the most powerful truths in the Bible is that our purpose flows from our identity.
Before Paul talks about the good works believers are called to do, he reminds us that we are God’s handiwork — His masterpiece.
This means our identity is not based on what we achieve. Instead, it is something we receive through Jesus Christ.
We don’t work to become God’s masterpiece.
We work because we already are His masterpiece.
God Has Equipped You
The Bible also teaches that every believer has been equipped with spiritual gifts.
In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul explains that the Holy Spirit gives different gifts to each believer so that the church can function as one body working together.
Some people teach. Some encourage. Some lead. Some serve. Some show mercy.
But every gift matters.
The church works best when every believer participates.
Faith Becomes Real When We Live It Out
Finally, the book of James reminds us that faith is meant to be lived out.
James writes:
“Do not merely listen to the word… do what it says.” (James 1:22)
Knowing the truth is important, but real spiritual growth happens when we live out what we believe.
Serving others, showing compassion, and using the gifts God has given us are all ways we begin to experience the life God designed us for.
Discover the Life God Created You For
Jesus taught that the path to a meaningful life is often the opposite of what our culture expects.
Instead of chasing success and achievement, Jesus invites us to give our lives away in service to others.
And when we do, we discover something surprising: fulfillment.
