Why the Church Matters More Than You Think (Hebrews 10)

The Problem: Why Faith Often Feels Distant

Hebrews 10 gives us a surprisingly honest picture of the human condition:

On our own, we drift, we doubt, and we isolate.

  • We drift away from God without realizing it

  • We struggle to hold onto hope in uncertain seasons

  • We try to follow Jesus alone

This helps explain why so many people feel stuck spiritually—even if they believe in God.

The Solution: Why the Church Is Essential

The Bible doesn’t present the church as optional. Instead, it shows us that the church is God’s design to help us grow and stay grounded in our faith.

Hebrews 10 gives us three clear invitations:

1. Draw Near to God

Because of Jesus, we now have direct access to God. We don’t have to live distant from Him—we are invited into a real, personal relationship.

2. Hold Onto Hope

In a world filled with anxiety and uncertainty, we can hold onto hope—not because we are strong, but because God is faithful.

3. Don’t Do Faith Alone

We were never meant to follow Jesus in isolation. The church is where we encourage one another, grow together, and stay rooted in truth.

Why This Matters Today

Recent studies show that while many Americans say they attend church, far fewer actually show up consistently. This reveals something deeper:

We’ve made church optional—but our faith was never designed to function that way.

The church is not just a place to attend—it’s a community where transformation happens.
